What is a Cataract? (Safaid Motia)

cataract surgery

Cataracts are medical conditions where patients get a cloudy lens. This cloudy lens doesn’t result in a day. Rather, it is a progressive condition of clouding of the eye lens for years. This cloudiness doesn’t come from the outside, and it’s not a film on the lens. Actually, this condition is developed inside the lens itself.

In Pakistan, it is commonly called ‘Safaid motia’ ( due to mature white opacity) or “Kala motia”( advanced, swollen cataract). The age factor primarily causes it, but also certain other conditions trigger its formation, like diabetes, prolonged steroids usage or eye injury.

The ultimate treatment of Cataract or kala motia treatment is the medicated surgery, or safed motia treatment, without operation, which is laser Cataract Surgery. However, to date, no medicine or eye drops can completely treat this ailment.

More Lights for Reading

When reading becomes problematic. And you require more or brighter lights for reading and writing. It also causes eye straining.

Switching of Contact lenses

If you experience frequent contact lenses or more switching or changes in lens number prescriptions. This is also a key symptom to go for an immediate cataract checkup.

Sparking halos

When you see halos or sparkling starbursts around lights, then immediately consider it alarming for your eyesight condition.

Faded Colors

Every color will appear dull, yellowish, faded or less vibrant when you have developing cataract issues. So you will not have more vibrant hues around you.

Photosensitivity

In this condition, you will feel quite uncomfortable towards strong, bright and dazzling light. It usually happens when you encounter bright headlights or face too much bright sunlight on sunny days.

How do we treat Cataract?

Those days have gone when the eye surgery procedure was quite lengthy and uncomfortable. Eye Care Centre provides you with modern cataract surgery in Lahore. It is a refined and quicker surgery procedure where Dr. Nabeel will recommend the best technique for your treatment after thorough evaluation.

Dr. Nabeel

Phacoemulsification ( Phaco Surgery)

It is considered the gold standard core of modern cataract treatment in Lahore. In this procedure, a small incision (about ≈2.2mm) is made. Then ultrasonic rays (energy) are used to emulsify the cloudy lense. Then that cloudy lens, after broken into pieces, is removed gently in this phacoemulsification procedure.

Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery

A bladeless procedure for removing cataract is known as laser Cataract treatment. In this procedure, a femtosecond laser(ultrafast light pulses) is used to precisely make an incision in eye tissues. These corneal incisions open up the eye lens capsule. It is highly selective with unparalleled accuracy in targeted areas. That’s why it’s the premium choice for treating Cataract.

Intraocular Lens(IOL) Implantation

This is the next restorative step after laser treatment. In this process, a clear quality artificial lens is implanted after the removal of the cataract. The choice of IOL will decide your visual results of the procedure. The more premium IOL, the better the results.

Monofocal Lens

As the name suggests mono focal means that gives one direction of focus.  It is usually used for farsighted vision clearance. It gives a clear vision at one distance (usually far) only.

Multifocal/ EDOF

Extended depth of focus lenses are used for dual purposes. They help in both nearsightedness and farsightedness by reducing dependency on glasses.

Toric Lens: These lenses are considered the best in the treatment of astigmatism (irregular shape of the eye lens or cornea). It corrects the pre-existing astigmatism during cataract surgery in Lahore.

Valuable Cataract
Treatment Cost in Lahore

It’s much better to understand the cataract surgery cost in Lahore. However, it is necessary because the total cataract treatment cost or cataract operational cost is not a single figure to consider. Further, it depends on the surgical technology standard, Phaco versus Laser-assisted, and the type of intraocular lens (IOL) implanted, because a basic monofocal lens with standard Phaco is the most economical option. When we go for the premium options like multifocal, or Toric lenses or if laser-assisted surgery involves it will cause additional cost. Due to advanced technology and lens design, you will get extra cost compared to general surgical options. During your consultation, we provide a complete breakdown of relatable options and methods that suit you both in terms of pockets and health. So you can make an informed decision without any hesitation.

What To Expect Before and After Surgery?

What are the early signs of cataract?

The cataract’s early signs include slightly blurred or cloudy vision, increased photosensitivity and enhanced required light than in normal circumstances to see objects.

When a cataract makes your daily life activities so difficult to execute, and your blurry vision interferes with routine activities like driving, reading, writing, and face recognition. Even your glasses no longer provide you with visibility or improvement.

Until now, there is no true cure for cataract other than medical treatment of cataract or surgery. While research continues, there are no proven medications or drops for treating cataract. For now, only surgery is an effective treatment.

This is the general observation that a process takes about 15 to 30 minutes per eye surgical procedure.

Nowadays, modern cataract surgery or laser treatment for cataract is considered the safest and most successful surgery performed.

Many patients notice noticeable differences in their vision after 24 hours of cataract surgery. You can resume most known strenuous activities within the upcoming couple of days. Your vision will stabilize fully in the duration of between 4 to 8 weeks.
